The Story of Isis and Osiris. Osiris is the brother, husband, and lover of Isis. The two are believed to be the original rulers of Egypt who brought peace and civilization to its land. The central conflict of the myth of Isis and Osiris begins with Seth, the brother of Osiris, who seeks power over the Egyptian kingdom and Isis for his wife. Osiris had a brother named Set. Ra thought Set was okay, I suppose, but his favorite by far was Osiris. To show Osiris how much he was loved, Ra made Osiris the first Pharaoh of Egypt. Osiris married Isis, his one true love, and the king (Osiris) and queen (Isis) settled down quite happily with their son (prince) Horus. Set was terribly jealous.
The cycle of myth surrounding Osiris's death and resurrection was first recorded in the Pyramid Texts and grew into the most elaborate and influential of all Egyptian myths. Isis plays a more active role in this myth than the other protagonists, so as it developed in literature from the New Kingdom (c. – BCE) to the Ptolemaic Period (–30 BCE), she became the most complex literary character of all Consort: Osiris, Min, Serapis, Horus the Elder. Eventually she found all the parts except one and reassembled Osiris and wrapped him in bandages. In some accounts Isis breathed life back into Osiris' body and it was then that Horus was conceived. This was a more magical event that it seems, considering the one part of Osiris Isis couldn't find.
